Waco Law Firm: a call for justice for all victims of Father Anthony Odiong
There is perhaps no more sacred relationship than the one between a person and their spiritual mentor. That a priest would manipulate this relationship is cruel.
That a priest would manipulate this relationship in order to sexually abuse a vulnerable parishioner is heart-rending. It is with a heavy heart that we invite any other victims of Fr. Anthony Odiong, whether in Texas or any other state, to pursue any path of justice that may help to bring about lasting peace and healing. We applaud the survivors who have already shared their experiences with law enforcement and with our office.
Reaching out will not force the disclosure of your name during any portion of either criminal or civil cases; you can remain anonymous as long as you like.
Adult Clergy Abuse is especially pernicious because it can be so difficult for survivors to even know they were victimized. The manipulation involved often hides the abuse under the guise of spiritual direction and advice, and may include promises of “special knowledge” or unique gifts as a part of the supposed relational exchange.
Though these experiences are negative in nature, they are often wrapped in the appearance of righteousness. It is only long after the fact that most of our adult clergy abuse clients discover that what they experienced was abuse.
